BRITALIA - Harvey Nichols

Attending the Wine tasting event at Edinburgh's 4th Floor Restaurant Talor and I had a great time - I'm sharing the highlights with you:

First up: Cantine Ferrari - a fine fizz offered in:
Ferrari Maximum Brut, Trento DOC NV - not too brut, slightly Cava'esque more than Prosecco 100% Chardonnay grape.
Ferrari Maximum Rose, Trento DOC NV - very similar to the above (too easy to drink!) even though made with both Chardonnay and Pinot Nero grapes
I didn't touch the Ferrari Perle, Trento DOC 2009, just knowing it would be out of my price range.

Quite enjoyed the reds from Tenute Guicciardini Strozzi - both of these wines were too heavy for me on the night, great with a Steak or a heavy beef stew. The heaviest:
Supertuscan Sodole, Rosso Toscano IGT 2008 - had aromas of mushroom and oak (my notes say expensive and dusty) - no price labels were shown.

Then we jumped to the Pasqua; there were two reds here, the one I focused on:
Az. Agr: Cecilia Beretta - Terre di Cariano, Amarone della Valpolicella Classico Riserva DOCG 2011 - my notes say, end of meal, luxuriate, drink slowly as a digestif. I definitely saw the potential in this one being enjoyed with friends around a roaring fire in a comfy sitting room  with heavy rugs, candle light and snoozing dogs at your feet.

The two other highlights for me were also red; from Piera Martellozzo the Terre Sauvignon DOC 2015 - this one I highlighted as Juice! This wine from the 2015 harvest won the Gold Medal at the "Concours Mondial du Sauvignon" and was chosen as a 5 star wine - truly glorious, light yet rich.

And finaly from the Vespa Vignaioli I honed in on the Il Bruno dei Vespa, Rosso Puglia IGT 2015, this light refreshing red is a blend of 2 different grapes - an everyday wine that can be paired with anything, fish or meat - a really enjoyable modern wine. My "if in doubt - get this" for a gift.
